UiTM Postgraduate Teaching Assistant Scheme (UPTA)

INTRODUCTION

  • UiTM Postgraduate Teaching Assistant with the short name 'UPTA' was created to replace the Graduate Service Scheme (Skim Khidmat Siswazah – SKS) and Postgraduate Fellowship Scheme.
  • Financial assistance for postgraduate level study (Masters and PhD).
  • Provide opportunities for postgraduate students to develop scholarship through the development of professional skills with working experience as a teaching assistant.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

  • A Malaysian-citizenship postgraduate students of UiTM.
  • Pursuing full-time Masters or PhD degree, either by course work or research mode.
  • Does not receive any financial assistance or scholarship except than MyMaster.
  • Have a recognized Bachelor's Degree with a GPA of 3.00 for the Masters program by coursework, while the minimum qualifications for graduate programs by research and doctoral program is dependent on decisions made in meetings of the Faculty’s Academic Board.
  • Meet the selection criteria set by each faculty in which graduates will be placed

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • UPTA task generally is to assist and support a course in accordance with the plan education set by the faculty/course coordinator.
  • The scope of work of UPTA is focused on teaching only.
  • A UPTA will act as a tutor/demonstrator in conducting practical classes/tutorials/studio/laboratory under the supervision of a lecturer who will be identified by the faculty.
  • UPTA workload does not exceed 6 hours per week.
  • Differences in the level of eligible courses run by UPTA is in accordance with their education level as follows:
    • Masters student is eligible to conduct courses for Degree or Diploma.
    • PhD student is eligible to conduct courses for the Degree of Master or Bachelor.

WAGES OR ALLOWANCES

  • UPTA will be paid an allowance at the rate of RM25.00 per hour.
  • UPTA is required to pay tuition fees.
  • UPTA has the opportunity to receive IPSis conference funding support subject to processes and procedures.

DURATION OF APPOINTMENT

  • The duration of appointment of UPTA at a time is for 14 weeks (lecture week) per semester.
  • UPTA may be reappointed in the following semester as long as it is not more than the minimum period of study and fulfilling the re-appointment criteria.

RE-APPOINTMENT CRITERIA

  • For re-appointment, applicant must have a CGPA of 3.3 or above for the course work program, or the status of In-Progress (SM) for the research program.
  • Applicant is recommended by the Faculty and he/she is still committed to the scheme UPTA and this
  • For UPTA who are in research program, in addition to condition (i) above, for the third appointment (Master and Doctorate) and the fifth appointment (PhD) in the minimum study period, the applicant shall have at least one (1) research paper accepted to be presented in the refereed either international or local seminar/conference.

  • Selection of students for a UPTA scheme will be made by the Faculty and the offer letter will be issued by IPSis.

Conference Support Fund

The aim of the Conference Support Fund is to help students pay the fees for publishing papers and attending conferences, either locally or abroad. With this support, it is hoped that students will be able to effectively enhance their communication skills. It is also hoped that by continuously publishing papers in indexed and high quality conferences, the postgraduate students in UiTM can excel.

Terms of Application
1. Active students who are still within their period of study.
2. Students pursuing a full-time Master’s or Doctoral degree by Coursework, Mixed Mode or Research.
3. Students who are not in receipt of any other financial assistance, except MyMaster and MyPhD (subject to the MyPhD being with no subsistence allowance).
4. Students who are in receipt of financial assistance in the form of educational loans (for example: PTPTN, MARA loans, etc.).
5. Public and private sector employees who are on full pay study leave are not eligible.
6. The support fund is only for presentation of full papers and NOT for poster or virtual presentations.
7. The support fund is also only for presentation of full papers at indexed conferences (SCOPUS/WOS/ ERA).
8. The support fund is ONLY for postgraduate students who apply. Students are strictly prohibited from sending a substitute to the conference to present the paper on their behalf.
9. The application for this support fund is also subject to the following terms:
i. The allocation for Master's students is for one (1) paper presentation only while attending conferences either locally or abroad.
ii. The allocation for Doctoral students is for a maximum of two (2) conferences in the following combinations:
a. One (1) local and one (1) overseas paper presentation; or
b. Two (2) local paper presentations.

How to Apply
Students are advised to submit application to IPSis one (1) month before the conference date to give ample time processing the application. The application form can be downloaded from IPSis website. This application form should be supported by documents as the following:

Conference brochure
Acceptance letter from the conference organiser
Paper to be presented
Proof of indexing

Funding

The Conference Support Fund provides support for registration fee only with the maximum of RM1000 for local conferences and RM1500 for international conferences. The fund is granted on a reimbursement basis upon receipt of the documents specified below:
i. Original copy of relevant receipts
ii. A copy of Approval Letter from IPSis
iii.A copy of Attendance Certificate 

Expectations
Students are expected to report their participation by submitting the certificate of attendance to IPSis and a copy of their powerpoint slides (using powerpoint template (see below)), 2 weeks after the conference.

 


 

Journal Support Fund

The aim of the Journal Support Fund is to help the postgraduate students of UiTM to pay the publication fees and provide the opportunity for them to publish their research work in indexed journals. It is hoped that by continuously publishing in indexed and high quality journals, postgraduate students of UiTM can excel.

Terms Of Application
1. Active students who are still within their period of study.
2. Students who are studying full-time as follows:
a) Master by Research students
b) Doctoral students by Coursework, Mixed Mode or Research

Amount
The maximum amount that the Journal Support Fund will reimburse for a single article is RM1500.

• Journal brochure/Information
• Acceptance letter from the journal publisher
• Proof of journals indexing
• Paper ready for publication

Funding
The Journal Support Fund is granted on a reimbursement basis upon receipt of the documents specified below:

• A copy of Approval Letter from IPSis
Students are expected to submit a Journal Report Form within 14 days of publication.

Expectation
The Journal Support Fund, UiTM should be acknowledged in the article published.

PTPTN

This scheme was set up with the aim of providing education loans to students pursuing their studies in local institutions of higher learning (IPT). This loan will enable students to fully or partially pay their fees and their subsistence for the duration of their study in the IPT. Thus, this scheme provides greater opportunities to students to continue their tertiary education.

The scope of the PTPTN education loan facility is open to students pursuing studies at the diploma, first degree, master, doctorate and professional courses levels in IPTs established under the following acts:

  • Universities and Universities Colleges Act 1971
  • Institut Teknologi MARA Act 1976
  • Private Higher Education Institutions Act 1996
  • Education Act 1996

Starting March 1st, 2007, students pursuing long distance or part-time studies in IPT's at the diploma, first degree, master, doctorate and professional courses levels are eligible to receive PTPTN education loan.

Education Excellence Award

Eligibility Criteria

1. Open to members of Bank Rakyat and/or their children.
2. An active Bank Rakyat member for more than 1 year.
3. Applicants must be a Bachelor’s degree graduates OR Master's from a public or private higher learning institutions recognized by the Ministry of Education, the Private Education Department and the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).
4. Applicants must be a first-class honours Degree/Master graduate (CGPA 3.5 and above).
5. Applicants must not be more than 30 years of age at the time of the closing date of the application.
6. Each registered Bank Rakyat member is only eligible to one (1) Education Excellence Award per person.
7. ONLY full-time graduates from year 2019 onwards are eligible for the Education Excellence Award.

3. You can upload up to three files to support your application. 2MB is the maximum size allowed for a single uploaded file and preferred file types are PDF and JPEG.

 Pembiayaan Tanpa Insentif (Loan Without Incentive-LWI)

1. LWI adalah pembiayaan yang disediakan tanpa insentif. Tiada sebarang jumlah diskaun bayaran balik pembiayaan akan diberikan. Pelajar perlu membayar pembiayaan berdasarkan jumlah yang telah dikeluarkan tanpa sebarang kadar keuntungan.

 

2. Pembayaran balik pembiayaan ini berkuatkuasa selepas pengeluaran pertama dilakukan yang mana sebanyak 20% daripada jumlah pengeluaran akan dibayar ketika dalam pengajian pelajar (2 tahun – Master; 3 tahun – Ph.D). Ilustrasi pembayaran balik adalah seperti contoh dibawah;

What is PPBU

PPBU is offered to tertiary level education from Skills Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Professional, Master’s Degree, and Doctorate (PH.D) to deserving Malaysian. Its aim is to aid the social and economic development of Malaysians by enabling bright but needy students to receive undergraduate education at local Public OR Private Higher Learning Institutions and Training Institutes in the country on a full-time basis.

PPBU is offered to applicants who have gained admission and are in their first year of study in Higher Learning Institutions and Training Institute recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education, the Private Education Department and the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and the National Vocational Training Council (NVTC). PPBU provides educational assistance for undergraduate study in a wide spectrum of academic and practical subjects which in the opinion of members of the Board of Trustees of YBR are best oriented towards the social and economic development needs of country and the community.

APPLICANT’S ELIGIBILITY

* Is open to the poor and underprivileged Malaysians regardless of race, religion & ethnicity.

* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY at local Public OR Private Higher Education Institutions and Training Institute recognized by the Government of Malaysia.

* Only fields of studies which are recognized by the Public Services Department (JPA) / Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) / Malaysian Vocational Training Council (NVTC) / Government Agencies (Malaysia) concerned and acknowledged by the Board of Trustees of YBR.

* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Should at least have attained OR currently holding level 2 OR – other Skill Certificate need at least a passed in their SPM (with 2 Credits and Bahasa Malaysia subject) OR applicant must obtained Skill Certificate with a minimum of CGPA 2.75 and above.
* Duration of study 3 years.
* Total Funding : Up to RM30,000 for 3 years [RM400/Monthly+Fee].

DIPLOMA

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must have SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) qualification with a minimum grade of 5A.
* Duration of study 3 years / 6 Semester.
* Total Funding : Maximum of RM7, 500 anually (UiTM & Politeknik only RM5, 000) [Fee+Allowance].

DEGREE

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must hold a Diploma with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Matriculation with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) with a Jayyid Jiddan or Mumtaz qualification that is equivalent to STPM.
* Duration of study 4 years / 8 Semester.
* Total Funding : Maximum of RM9, 500 annually (UiTM & Politeknik only RM6, 500) [Fee+Allowance].

PROFESSIONAL

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 30 years old upon graduation.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicants must hold a Diploma OR Degree with CGPA 3.0 and above.
* Duration of study 2 Years / 4 Semester.
* Total Funding : Up to RM28,500 for 2 years [Fee+Allowance].

MASTER

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 45 years upon graduation for Masters Degree.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicant must hold a Bachelor's Degree with CGPA of 3.00 and above.
* Duration of study 2 Years / 4 Semester.
* Total Funding : Maximum of RM 12, 000 anually [Fee + Allowance].

DOCTORATE PHD

* Malaysian citizen.
* Qualified to a FULL-TIME STUDY mode only.
* Applicants must have a savings account with Bank Rakyat with a minimum of RM100 account balance before apply.
* NOT less than 18 years old during application and accepting the study offer.
* NOT exceeding 50 years upon graduation for Doctorate & PHD.
* Confirmation of admission from the public OR private University OR Training Centre.
* Applicants must hold a Masters Degree qualification with CGPA of 3.00 and above.
* Duration of study 3 years / 6 Semester.
* Total Funding : Up to RM55,800 3 years [RM800/Monthly+Fee].

How to Apply PPBU



Withdrawal of PPBU Disbursement

YBR may withdrawal the PPBU if:

              * Students deferring their study without first obtaining permission from YBR

              * Fail to complete and execute the agreement within the specified period

              * Providing false information in the application form

              * Fail to remain in the areas of study as specified in the PPBU application

              * Fail to graduate from universities / colleges / ILA / ILS within the prescribed period

              * Obtain a grade point average (CGPA) of 2.0 and below

 

 (PPBU) / Scholarship will be fully withdrawn and students shall be required to make full repayment of PPBU / Scholarship which they have received during the period of their study.


Termination of PPBU Contract

If a student fails to pursue their study YBR will automatically terminate all disbursement.

Students shall be required to make full repayment of the entire amount of the sponsorship which was disbursed during their study period as stipulated in the agreement.
